New Look, Who Dis?
And I'm not just talking about my hair.
I walk into the beauty salon for beautification. My tresses haven’t been blown by a professional since 2019. Now that the ‘Vid has calmed a bit (at least in my neck of the woods) and that Omi got me on Christmas Day (thank you Jesus for keeping me alive!) it is time.
“What do you want done?” my stylist, Lexi, asks. She looks as young as I feel after one too many Moscow Mules and the DJ blasts I Know What You Want by Busta Rhymes. The next morning, however, my knees remind me I am almost 44.
“This is the color I’m going for.” I whip out my phone and pull up a screenshot of the Halle Berry, who I’ve been told I resemble. Probably after they’ve had too many Moscow Mules.
“We can get you that blonde in two sessions. I’m going to get the batch ready.”
Lexi makes her way to her work station, mixing colors and bleach to lift my two-toned dark roots. I glance at myself in the mirror and feel excited about my personal and professional rebrand. Much like Lexi is putting in work, I took a few days off from my 9-5 to write a few chapters of my romance novel, Type That, to outline Love Trips Volume 2, and (drumroll please!) launch my new website, SujeiryGonzalez.com. Much like my hair is pivoting from two-toned, crazy mess express to fresh and current, my writing is shifting from blogging about sex and dating tips to publishing books. It’s time to level up! To write stories versus quick blogs for content sake. To stop feeling scared that my books won’t sell. To solely focus on writing because that is my first love, my baby, where it all began.
It’s time to COMMIT, as I mention in this post on SujeiryGonzalez.com, to the desires of young Sujeiry, much like I’m committing to this new hair color ala Halle Berry.
